Andy Richter Talks Smack

Andy Richter talks about NBC and Leno with Kelly Ripa

While Conan’s exit agreement bars him from appearing on television until… when was it again?… Andy Richter apparently has no such clause. The former, then once again, then former again late night side kick recently stopped by Live With Regis and Kelly to let it all out to Kelly Ripa. It makes sense. Who else would you want to go to? She seems so understanding. Full video after the “jump.” (more…)

Academy Award Winning Short ‘Logorama’

logorama animated short academy awards

Here’s Logorama, the Academy Award winner for best animated short, in it’s entirety. Directed by the French collective H5, this 17 minute film features the story of two Michellin men cops chasing down a deranged Ronald McDonald across a Los Angeles cityscape made up entirely of world famous logos (Ronald’s getaway vehicle is even rendered as the motorcycle logo from Grease…..2. While Logorama appears to be a simple and quirky film with a neat visual motif, it’s actually a sly commentary of how corporations permeate our everyday life. According to the directors,

“Logorama presents us with an over-marketed world built only from logos and real trademarks that are destroyed by a series of natural disasters (including an earthquake and a tidal wave of oil). Logotypes are used to describe an alarming universe (similar to the one that we are living in) with all the graphic signs that accompany us everyday in our lives. This over-organized universe is violently transformed by the cataclysm becoming fantastic and absurd. It shows the victory of the creative against the rational, where nature and human fantasy triumph.”

In simpler terms, it’s well worth a watch.

“Handsome Men Club” on Jimmy Kimmel Live

After riding the success of past viral hits “I’m F-ing Matt Damon” and its sequel, “I’m F-ing Ben Affleck”, Jimmy Kimmel unveiled his new video on Friday. In “The Handsome Men’s Club”, Jimmy presides over a panel of A-list actors known for their easiness on the eyes. To name the full roster would ruin the fun of it, so go ahead and see for yourself. Somebody’s bound to send it to you at some point today, regardless.

Best Oscar Moment: That One Part That Was Weird

music-by-precious-oscars-do

So the Oscars were pretty boring and unmemorable this year. Except for one part, which everyone will forget by next year anyways.

See those people above? Recognize them? Of course not. They’re nobodies. But that didn’t stop them from getting into a tryst about who was a bigger (or smaller?) nobody than the other one.

When the Academy presented the award for best short subject documentary to Music By Prudence, this happened:

Funny Or Die’s Presidential Reunion

This Funny Or Die video features almost all the iconic presidential impressions from Saturday Night Live all in the same room, some reprising roles they haven’t played since the 70s.

The only notable absence is Phil Hartman’s Ronald Reagan. Hartman is sadly no longer with us, but he is impeccably replaced by Jim Carrey, who used to play Reagan back in his early days logging time on In Living Color.

All in all, a pretty momentous event for comedy and political enthusiasts alike. Also, I think it has something to do with healthcare. And Fred Armisen kind of blows.

Tim Burton’s Secret Formula

Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland premieres this weekend, and while some are eager in anticipation, others are rolling their eyes at yet another Burton-ization of a story they’ve heard many times before (See: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, Planet of the Apes). While the stories themselves have been done to death, Burton’s motifs have begun to grow as tired and predictable as the story beats. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter star, check. Macabre imagery, check. Danny Elfman score, check.

Meanwhile, the good folks over at College Humor show us what exactly goes on in a Tim Burton pitch meeting:

I Watched This: The Sarah Silverman Program – “NightMayor”

The Sarah Silverman Program

Like most shows on Comedy Central that aren’t fake newscasts, The Sarah Silverman Program has aired quite sporadically since its 2007 premiere, with hiatuses that can at times last longer than a year. But regardless of its spotty production history, it’s a quality program.

If it’s your thing, that is. It certainly isn’t for everyone. Although Sarah Silverman is approaching 40, her sense of humor is perpetually eight years old, but I mean that in the best way possible. She can also be quite offensive, so if you’re sensitive about that kind of stuff, maybe you should stay away.

Whether or not you find the following joke hilarious will probably be a tell tale sign of whether this is something to add to your DVR schedule:

Sarah approaches a series of political campaign posters for the mayoral candidate Terry Grossnickle. Always up for some mischief, she breaks out a pen and says something along the lines of, “Grossnickle? This is too easy.”

You see her writing for a long time, assuming she is altering the name in some way, but then comes the reveal: Sarah simply just wrote the word “PUBES” in giant letters across the sign.

This was the strongest joke in this episode, so if it didn’t do it for you, you may not be the target demographic. (more…)

New Movie News – Superman, Captain America, Zoolander 2

Superman, Captain America, and Zoolander rocking out with some orange mocha frappucinos from Starbucks

It’s been a busy day regarding movie announcements. Let me fill you in.

The Man of Steel – Hoping to cleanse audiences pallettes of the bland lameness that was Superman Returns, David Goyer (Blade) is planning on penning a new flick for the last son of Krypton. As you can tell by the title, they’re going in the same direction as the much more successful Batman films. Why is it so hard to make a Superman movie? He has plenty of cool bad guys and has about a centuries worth of stories. Braniac? Darkseid? Fuck, even Toy Man? Why is every Superman movie just about Luthor and kryptonite?

Captain America – The First Avenger – I’m not sure if that subtitle is still official, but this, along with Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, is part of Marvel Studios effort to introduce the Avengers team to movie audiences before they make an all out team film. Current candidates for the part include Scott Porter, Michael Cassidy, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chace Crawford, Garrett Hedlund, and John Krasinsk (aka Jim from The Office, that’d be weird. I don’t recognize those names, so go ahead and put them in imdb to see if you’ve seen them in anything. What? That’s my job? Shit. Kinda busy right now, dude. Anyways, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk have been part of the Avengers effort as well, and they were pretty awesome and decent, respectively.

Zoolander 2 – I’ve heard rumors about this since 2002, but now it looks official. Justin Theroux (who co-wrote Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller), plans to direct and co-write the film with Stiller. Jonah Hill is rumored to be the villain, so uh, should be good. Comedy sequels tend to be pretty lame though, but let’s hope for the best.

Aziz Ansari Vs. Rap World

Aziz Ansari with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek

Comedian Aziz Ansari (as his alter ego “RAAAAAAAANDY” from Funny People) teams up with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek to call out pretty much every single rapper out there on their track “Aaaaaaaangry.” I don’t listen to TV on the Radio, any good? Gotta admit, dude looks like kind of a dbag in that photo. Also, hip hop is terrible. Thanks for doing this, Aziz.

This Was An Actual Thing: “Heil Honey, I’m Home”

Adolf Hitler sitcom: Heil Honey I'm Home

So I just saw that an Eva Braun biopic was in the works, and it suddenly occurred to me: I know nothing of this woman. The research I did (on wikipedia) yielded little interesting information. She was kind of lame. But as I made my way to my favorite subsection, “Appearances In Other Media”, I was delighted.

In 1990, the British network Galaxy commissioned a show called Heil Honey, I’m Home, a retro 50s style sitcom about the zany antics of Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun. It was canceled after one episode, for obvious reasons. The first and only episode revolves around making dinner for an important guest (a standard sitcom trope), in this case Neville Chamberlain (wikipedia research TBD). It is the shortest lived show in the history of England. But just because it’s canceled, doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. They put Family Guy back on the air, and that show is twice as shitty as this one. And you better believe it’s on youtube (after the jump): (more…)
