The New Hundo

One of our founding fathers just got an extreme home makeover. Here’s a surprisingly showy video from the Federal reserve showcasing the new hundred dollar bill (aka “The Benjamin”), which features a “3D security ribbon” and a color changing ink well. That’s cool, right? Presumably so.

Being the most frequently counter fitted note, extra security measures were needed, as well as literal bells and proverbial whistles (the Liberty Bell changes from copper to green when tilted). Circulation is set to begin in 2011.

Star Wars Uncut

Star Wars Uncut “The Escape” from Casey Pugh on Vimeo.

After decades of special editions and CGI prequels, the good folks over at Star Wars Uncut had a solution to all that. They uploaded the entire movie in 15 second clips, and any aspiring film maker could claim that clip and produce a lo-fi version of that scene. The site will then compile the clips and recreate the movie in it’s entirety. It should be kind of amazing. Check out the preview above.

Film Buddies: “Sleepwalkers”

Stephen King Sleepwalkers 1992

Sleepwalkers is a 1992 horror film based on an unpublished Stephen King novel, which is what attracted me to it. I love Stephen King, and you should too. So what’s this movie about? Well, here’s the trailer (which features the instrumental classic “Sleepwalk” by Santo and Johnny):

To answer your question, it’s about Cat people. Or Werecats, whatever you want to call them. They’re half human and half cat… and they want your… life energy. They are usually in human form, but they can morph. (more…)

Conan O’Brien Sings “Creep” On Tour

Future TBS late night host Conan O’Brien began his “Legally Prohibited” tour this week, and here’s your first look: O’Brien doing a ridiculously cockneyed Thom Yorke impression while singing Radiohead’s signature hit, “Creep.”

This was just the sound check, so the show must be amazing. If you have tickets for a future date (like me), however, you may want to avoid videos of the tour so it won’t spoil any of the surprises you paid at least 40 dollars for. This one should be okay though because, again, it’s just the sound check. But what a sound check!

Babies – Official Trailer

Well, this is quite strange. There’s an inarguable baby zeitgeist happening right now for some reason. Celebrity birthing speculations are one of the few things that keep the print industry alive, while the E*Trade babies manage to get a movie deal.

Babies, a documentary about the first year of four different infants living in different parts of the world, seems like a product of that zeitgeist, but it somehow appears novel. The trailer shows a thoughtful and visually dynamic film that takes a different spin on the subject matter than the rest of pop culture (i.e. doesn’t give them CGI mouths.)

Although something as mindless as babies or bacon can take the world by storm, this shows that it can be possible to take a mundane subject and give it a serious look. This is just a trailer, so this may not ultimately be the case, but it shows hope.

Hipster Utopia: ‘Pixels’ by Patrick Jean

PIXELS by PATRICK JEAN.
Uploaded by onemoreprod. – Independent web videos.

It finally happened. New York City hipsters have finally created their utopia, transforming their 21st century metropolis into a retro video game landscape. Well, not really. But there’s a short film about it, and it’s amazing.

Lil’ Wayne Vs. The Office

Lil Wayne Office Theme Mash up

Is there anything the internet can’t do? It’ll take something that no one asked for, give it to them, and then make you realize you wanted it. It will take two elements of the universe that have never been mentioned in the same sentence, breed them, and make a beautiful offspring.

Case in point: Lil’ Wayne meets the theme from The Office. If you’re anything like me, you’ve gotten to the point where you’ve heard the latter so much, you use your DVR to fast forward through The Office’s opening credits. After hearing this, that should no longer be the case.

UPDATE Here’s a remix using the Parks and Recreation theme: http://www.buzzfeed.com/awesomer/parks-and-rec-theme-rap-remix/

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back To The SyFy Network

Syfy Network MegaPiranha

Starring 80’s pop sensation Tiffany, Crocodile Dundee’s Paul Logan (oh wait that’s Paul HOGAN, and he’s dead. who the fuck is this guy then), and Barry Williams, who you may know as Greg Brady.

Komodo Dragon Clip From Discovery’s ‘Life’

Discovery Life Komodo Dragon

Have you recently bought a high definition television set and are not sure what all the fuss is about? Well stop worrying, the fuss has been justified.

On Sunday, the Discovery Channel debuted Life, the breathtaking new 11-part nature documentary that serves as de facto sequel series to the equally stunning Planet Earth. Unlike Earth, which focuses on terrains and ecosystems, Life takes a deep look at the wide variety of life on our planet and the fascinating behavior it often displays.

Every shot of the series makes you stop and wonder how it was accomplished, and the documentary even contains footage of wildlife behavior that has never been caught on film before.

The following clip showcases the first known footage of Komodo dragons on a hunt as they take down a water buffalo, and it’s nothing short of incredible. For the full experience, be sure to check it in 1080p, Sundays on the Discovery Channel.

Andy Samberg Guest Stars on ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’

Sarah Silverman and Andy Samberg

First off, I crossed out Jonah Hill’s face because he has nothing to do with this post, not because I do not like him.

This week on The Sarah Silverman Program, two of the most subversive, non sequitur, absurdest comedians in entertainment joined forces to make some of the weirdest scenes ever recorded. Andy Samberg guest stars as Troy Bulletin-Board, Sarah’s imaginary childhood friend who comes back into her life after being “murdered” by her father when she was a child (if you watch the show, you wouldn’t bat an eye at that statement).

Andy and Sarah frolic through an epic fantasy land that includes hot air balloons, rainbows, hamburger hoses, and of course, the Loch Ness monster. I know this is not the first time I’ve talked about this show but, hey, it’s awesome.

The Sarah Silverman Program Thursday, 10:30pm / 9:30c
